… at the 69th annual conference of the DGPuK
Mission Statement
We are delighted to welcome a large number of communication scholars to the University of Erfurt for the 69th Annual Conference of the DGPuK from 13 to 15 March 2024. It is important to us that the conference is a place of inspiration and mutual exchange where all participants feel comfortable and can benefit equally from the conference experience. The basis for this is a coexistence that is free of discrimination, harassment and violence and we would like to sensitise all participants to take responsibility for this themselves and contribute to an integrating social event that is characterised by mutual recognition and respect. In this context, we would also like to refer to the University of Erfurt’s policy on protection against discrimination, harassment, and violence, which outlines the foundations for a culture of mindfulnesson campus, which ensures respectful interaction with one another and should also apply to all guests of the University of Erfurt during our conference. There should be no room for acts of discrimination. This applies to sexualised harassment and behaviour that unilaterally crosses the boundaries of friendly, collegial behaviour as well as to forms of discrimination and degradation based on group-related attributions, which are often intertwined. In addition to this sensitisation, we would also like to give you some tips that will help you quickly in difficult situations should they arise during the conference. We hope that we have been able to create a supportive framework to prevent experiences of discrimination in the best possible way. The University of Erfurt and the Department of Media and Communication Studies also support the „Weltoffenes Thüringen“ initiative, which advocates a cosmopolitan and diverse Thuringia, respect for human dignity and indivisible human rights, plural democracy and the rule of law, welcoming people in their diversity, peaceful and respectful interaction with one another and the idea of European unification. In doing so, we stand alongside many Thuringian citizens, organisations and institutions that clearly oppose the growing right-wing populist and far-right political forces in the federal state. As the organisers, we would also like to place our annual conference under these guiding principles of the initiative.
