13 – 15 March 2024 | University of Erfurt
As the largest gathering of usually more than 400 communication scholars from the DACH-region, the 69th annual conference of the German Communication Association (DGPuK) will be hosted by the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Erfurt between 13 and 15 March 2024 (Wednesday – Friday).
Visions for the
„good life“
Media and Communication in Tomorrow’s Society
With the 69th annual conference theme, we want to encourage a debate about the social relevance and future of research in communication studies. Therefore, we ask what role communication and media can play for the individual, institutional and, above all, societal realization of the various ideas and dimensions of a ‚good life‘. You can learn more about the conference theme and submission requirements in the Call for Papers (CfP), where the english version is available through the following link.

Awareness matters
… at the 69th annual conference of the DGPuK
We are delighted to welcome a large number of communication scholars to the University of Erfurt for the 69th Annual Conference of the DGPuK from 13 to 15 March 2024. It is important to us that the conference is a place of inspiration and mutual exchange where all participants feel comfortable and can benefit equally from the conference experience. The basis for this is a coexistence that is free of discrimination, harassment and violence and we would like to sensitise all participants to take responsibility for this themselves and contribute to an integrating social event that is characterised by mutual recognition and respect.
Visit our English Awareness matters page to learn more on our mission statement, (emergency) contact information, the infrastructure in campus (e.g. for families) as well as general measurements for wellbeing during the conference.
Travel Information
Centrally located in Germany, Thuringia’s state capital Erfurt is easy to reach by train and offers an appealing conference setting with a historic old town and plenty of greenery. On the website of the Tourist Information Erfurt you can learn more about the sights and cultural offerings.
See the sections below for further travel details, including hotels, where we reserved contingents.
Arrival by train
To get from Erfurt main station (train) to the university, take …
… line 3 (towards Europaplatz)
… line 6 (towards Rieth)
The main entrance to the university is directly opposite from the stop „Universität“.
You can purchase tickets at the ticket machines at the stops, in the app or at the EVAG-Center (Anger).
Arrival by car
The University of Erfurt is conveniently located on the A4 (coming from the west/east) and A71 (north/south link). Just follow the signposts in the city area.
Parking facilities
Behind the university campus there is a visitors‘ car park, where free parking spaces are available. Please enter „An der Parkharfe“ instead of „Nordhäuser Straße 63“ into the navigation system.
Find additional travel information on the official university website.
Accommodations
Smaller accommodations dominate in Erfurt’s city center, hotels with large room allotments hardly exist and the negotiated prices are often higher than those available in online booking portals. Therefore, only a smaller room contingent was reserved for DGPuK 2024.
Hotels without contingent
For the following hotels contingents were not available, but of course you can book them individually. Please remember to book in advance, if you are looking for favorable rates.
Hotels with contingent
If you are interested in using the contingent, please indicate the code „DGPuK 2024“ when booking a room in one of the following hotels. For detailed information, feel free to contact the DGPuK 2024 team: info@dgpuk2024.de

Submissions for open formats should include a description of the planned format and a short outline of its schedule (approx. 3.000 – 4.000 characters), and should not be anonymized. The organization team will finally decide upon acceptance and rejections based on whether open submissions match the overall program schedule.
